The next medical alert system you purchase might just be a smart watch! As we reported earlier this year, a number of the medical alert companies we met with at CES2018 have been touting next generation medical alert technologies. The new medical alert devices are actually medical alert smart watches worn on the wrist vs the traditional pendant technology (worn around the neck). The new smartwatch offerings could avoid the stigma of typical medical alert pendants made famous by the line – “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up“.
The new smartwatches don’t surprise any of us here at The Senior List®. We’ve been talking about smartwatch technology for many, many years now. We’re pleased to report that a number of very interesting new products have been introduced by leading medical alert companies in the USA. Let’s take a look at 2 of the most notable below.
New Medical Alert Smart Watches
The first introduced by MobileHelp is a mobile android wear watch built with help from partners at Samsung. It’s built on the very handsome Gear S3 platform which should bring system stability, and confidence to users. Here’s what MobileHelp has to say about their new mobile medical alert smartwatch:
MobileHelp has collaborated with Samsung to design a groundbreaking product that utilizes smarter technology solutions, emergency response functionality and digital health capabilities to help solve a range of modern issues – from helping seniors live longer and more independently to workers and athletes being safer on the job or at play. – MobileHelp . com
The second smartwatch we’re following was introduced by Medical Guardian, and dubbed the “Freedom Guardian”. Freedom Guardian is a proprietary platform developed with GPS and wifi included. Here’s what Medical Guardian has to say about their new technology:
The Freedom Guardian features oversize icons and simple scrolling, and is “very loud,” Gross said. It can call for Lyft, translate text messages to voice (and vice versa), and remind the wearer to take medications. It has built-in GPS that can help guide emergency workers to the wearer’s location. – Philly[dot] com/ The Inquirer
While neither medical alert smart watches have officially hit the mass commercial markets, we’ll report just as soon as they’re ready for mainstream. Don’t worry – You won’t have to wait long… We anticipate availability for both to be in the second quarter of 2018 sometime.
