Best Assisted Living Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. That growth is attributable not only to those who come to work in the banking and financial offices that help fuel the economy, but also to the increasing number of retirees who have chosen this sunny and intriguing town as their retirement destination.

The latter group has shaped the sort of activities and events Charlotte has to offer, making it even more appealing to retirees.

List of the Best Assisted Living Facilities in Charlotte, North Carolina

What People Love About Charlotte, NC

While you may choose to live in the suburbs, big city excitement is near at hand. Among the charms of this town are the following:

  • Financially speaking, the cost of living is lower than in many states. A further incentive is North Carolina’s refusal to tax Social Security benefits. Additionally, homeowners who are 65+ may qualify for a homestead exemption.
  • The city enjoys a relatively mild climate year-round, averaging more than 200 days of sunshine a year. Highest temperature: 90 degrees. Lowest: 32 degrees.
  • Mass transit, in the form of LYNX light-rail and a good bus system, makes it easy to get around.
  • Great golfing: in 2017, Charlotte was selected to host the PGA Championship at the Quail Hollow Club.
  • A wealth of spectator sports, such as football (including the Carolina Panthers, as well as the Carolina Queens, an all-female team), basketball (the Charlotte Hornets), baseball, soccer, lacrosse, roller skating, and more.
  • Superb health care delivered by Carolinas HealthCare System and Novant Health.
  • At least two dozen art museums and galleries.
  • A broad selection of restaurants and cuisines.
  • Explore the famed South End neighborhood, with its 100+ shops (each unique), restaurants, galleries, and innovative architecture. Founded some 160 years ago, this neighborhood continues to reinvent itself, and is only getting more innovative with time.
  • Home of the Nascar Hall of Fame.
  • For those who like picking out their meats, produce, freshly baked goods and such, there’s the 7th Street Public Market.

The City’s Downsides

No place is going to be perfect. The city is continuing to grow (the estimated population, as of 2016, was 845,801, up at least 50% from 2000). While being bigger has its advantages in what the city can offer its citizens, it also translates into rising crime rates, and questionable air quality (though that has improved over the last few years). The city also has hot, humid summers.
