Best Assisted Living in Cincinnati

Founded in 1788, Cincinnati’s population is currently approximately 300,000. Cincinnati, located in southwest Ohio, is separated from Kentucky to the south by the convergence of two rivers (the Ohio River and the Licking River).

A thriving arts and culture scene combined with ample sporting options (whether viewing or participating), food and brewery tours, not to mention parks and water-related activities, means anyone living in the Queen City (just one of the town’s nicknames) should find this a stimulating environment.

In reading the assisted living reviews gathered from around the web, you’ll notice a few of them are in Kentucky. Because of Cincy’s proximity to Kentucky, we list towns in Kentucky like Fort Wright and Edgewood as being suburban.

What people like about Cincinnati, Ohio

  • In Ohio, there’s no estate tax, and Social Security retirement benefits are fully exempt. Pensions or retirement accounts (e.g., a 401(k) or an IRA) will be taxed as regular income, but a senior may qualify for a credit.
  • The average low is 22 degrees F, and the average warmest temp is 87 degrees F.
  • Sports are big in Cincy. There are three major league teams (football, baseball, and soccer) as well as several minor league teams and college sports.
  • Cincinnati possesses the nation’s largest collection of 19th-century buildings, as well as a vast subterranean world of tunnels, which people can explore.
  • Cincinnati’s determination to be more inclusive as regards the LGBT community is paying off. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2017 Corporate Equality Index recognized 517 Cincy companies as being worthy of top honors in this regard, which is more companies than in any other US city.
  • For those traveling in to or out of Cincinnati, there’s Amtrak, Greyhound, and Megabus, an intercity bus system.
  • Within city limits, there is a somewhat limited bus network and the beginnings of a streetcar system (as of 2016). City managers are continuing to improve efforts to improve all modes of transportation.
  • Another form of “transportation” is one of the city’s most unique features: The city-owned “Steps of Cincinnati,” which is nearly 400 sets of steps scattered around the hilly town, used both for getting around town as well as for exercise.
  • The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is located across the river in Hebron, KY.
  • There’s a wide variety of health care, including the esteemed University of Cincinnati Medical Center, just one among several nationally recognized medical facilities in Cincinnati.

Other considerations for Cincinnati

  • Although nearly half the population is African-American, racial tension, dating back to at least 1829, continue to this day.
  • If possible, have your own vehicle or know that there is reliable transportation available.
  • While areavibes.com rates Cincy A+ for amenities, it doles out an F for crime statistics. Crimes, whether against persons or property, are significantly higher in this town than the national average and much higher than Ohio’s overall average. Note there are 53 neighborhoods: some are safer than others.
  • Many may find the winters long, cold, and snowy.
