The Best Walk-in Tub Shower Combinations of 2026
My clients love walk-in tub and shower combinations, otherwise known as hybrids, because they give them the flexibility to shower or bathe, all in the privacy of their own homes. It's models like these that allow seniors to age in place, maintaining their independence and avoiding nursing homes.
Over the years, my clients have tried hybrid walk-in showers/tubs from many different manufacturers, but they've had the most success with models from Kohler, Safe Step, Ella's Bubbles, and American Standard. I've evaluated these models based on the experiences of my clients, tub design safety, comfort, and pricing.

The best walk-in tub/shower combos of 2026
Kohler - Most Versatile
800-985-2943
What We Like Most:
- Adjustable shower head in multiple finishes and spray options
- Attractive LuxeStone wall design options
- One of the lowest step-in heights in the industry
Overview
You can read about Kohler’s walk-in tubs and features online, but to actually order one, you’ll have to schedule an in-home consultation with a Kohler representative. They will measure and evaluate your bathroom space to help you determine what size walk-in tub and shower combo would be best for your health needs, personal preferences, budget, and space.
Walk-in tub and shower combos are referred to as the “Shower Package” on Kohler’s website. With the Shower Package, you’ll get a walk-in tub, a clear and frameless glass wall to keep water in, and Kohler’s gooseneck shower head. The gooseneck shower head is available in two heights and three showerhead styles and finishes. But we especially love how adjustable it is and that there’s an ergonomic handheld shower — with a sensitive skin spray setting — as well.

Kohler’s extra-wide door and lever-style door lock make it much easier to enter and exit your tub, compared with some of Kohler’s competitors. The tub’s control panel is easy to access and use, and we appreciate that the outer edge of the tub and bath door are equipped with discreet grip rails for safer entry. Kohler’s walk-in tubs are also deeper than some competitors, allowing you to sink down and enjoy the BubbleMassage air jets and strategically placed whirlpool jets for a more relaxing soak.
Other notable features of Kohler hybrid tubs are the wide heated seats, quick draining time of around two to four minutes, and one of the lowest walk-in tub thresholds in the market at only 3 inches. That’s an inch lower than Safe Step’s. In addition, Kohler offers a lifetime limited warranty and discounts, such as a current offer of $1,000 off and no payments due for a year.

- Multiple elegant design options for shower head and walls
- Low step-in threshold
- Installed by Kohler professionals
- Home evaluation price quote includes installation
Cons
- No ozone cleaning system
- Can’t purchase directly without in-home consultation
- Pricey
American Standard - Best With 0 Percent Financing
What We Like Most:
- 0 percent financing for the first 12 months
- Aromatherapy and chromotherapy
- Hand-held shower wand
- Grab bars for safety
Overview
As with Kohler, you’ll have to set up an in-home evaluation with an American Standard representative to discuss walk-in tub shower hybrid options and pricing. We recommend contacting the company directly at 800-215-5130 for current inventory and purchasing options.
American Standard doesn’t offer a wall-mounted shower option with their walk-in tubs, unlike Kohler, Safe Step, and Ella’s Bubbles. But they do make a walk-in tub with a hand-held shower wand, which allows someone with mobility issues to enjoy both showering and bathing in the same safe space.

Aside from safety features like a slip-resistant floor and grab bars, the tub also comes with a total of 44 water and air jets, which has to be a record, as well as chromotherapy and aromatherapy. This model in particular includes professional installation, which is great because pricing typically starts around $7,000 for the tub without installation.

Ella’s Bubbles - Best Customer Service
What We Like Most:
- Positively rated and reviewed by customers online
- 20 air jets and eight water jets
- Optional heated seats
Overview
If you’ve ever looked at the customer reviews on the website of the Better Business Bureau, they’re usually abysmal, with people complaining about aggressive sales tactics, shoddy installation, and useless customer service. However, that’s not the case with Ella’s Bubbles, which has an A+ BBB rating and a 4.89 out of five-star rating based on customer reviews. I’ve heard nothing but good things from my clients regarding Ella’s Bubbles customer service, whether they requested quotes online or over the phone.

The company offers hybrid shower/tub models in two sizes. We love the Ella Laydown60, an acrylic walk-in bathtub and shower. At 60 inches long, you can lay back and luxuriate in this walk-in tub. And the shower head has four spray settings and is fully adjustable: It moves up and down so you can stand while showering or use it as a handheld in the bath. Both tubs have 20 air jets, eight water jets, and an optional heated seat.
The models don’t include grab bars as standard features, and they lack extras like chromotherapy, aromatherapy, or bidets, so they’re not quite as luxurious (or safe) as the Safe Step model. However, you can add safety features to customize your walk-in hybrid tub.
Additionally, Ella’s Bubbles does not handle installation — you’ll have to find someone to install it on your own. While prices aren’t listed on the website, the company has four financing partners, all of which offer 0 percent APR for qualifying customers. To learn more, request a free quote online or call the company directly at 800-480-6850.
Pros
- Ability to choose drain location (right, left, or center)
- Lifetime limited warranty
- 0 percent APR financing available
- Great customer online reviews and ratings
Cons
- Doesn’t include installation
- No prices on website
- Only two hybrid tub options
Safe Step - Best Installation
What We Like Most:
- Anti-slip floors
- 16 air jets and 10 hydro jets
- Quick drainage
- Rainfall showerhead
Overview
Price range: $3,000 to $12,000
The Hybrid Walk-in Tub from Safe Step provides the safety and comfort you need to shower and bathe at home independently. Of course, it has the standard features of a walk-in tub, including a 4-inch step-in height for easy entrances and exits, quick drainage, and anti-slip floors and seats to help prevent falls.
But this tub isn’t only safe; it’s also comfortable, with aromatherapy and chromotherapy, and a shower wand for those hard-to-reach parts. It also features 10 hydro massage jets that turn your bath into a luxurious experience. After hard days, my clients love relaxing in the tub, or showering if they’re in a rush.

Credit: Safe Step
The company maintains strong credentials with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), holding an A+ rating and accreditation since 2009. Safe Step has a customer rating of 4.63 out of five stars on the BBB. Plus, like all of the walk-in shower and tub combinations on this list, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty, so there’s little financial risk involved.

Pros

- Ozone cleaning system
- Water-resistant remote control
Cons
- Limited financing options
- Limited tub designs
- Possible issues with soap buildup in door lock and hinges rusting
Honorable Mentions
These manufacturers’ walk-in tub and shower hybrids also impressed us, although they didn’t make our top four:
- Boca: You can add a rainfall showerhead to any of the walk-in tubs from Boca for an additional cost. But with the company's prices typically starting at around $9,000 or more, Boca is far from the cheapest option.
- AmeriGlide: While AmeriGlide offers walk-in tubs and conversion kits, prices start around $3,200, and that does not include the cost of shipping. Additionally, while there's a lifetime warranty on the tub's door seals, the warranty on the tub itself lasts only 10 years. You'll receive just a five-year warranty on the pump and motor and one year on the faucets. I prefer tubs that last a lifetime.
Our Methodology: How we evaluate walk-in tub-shower hybrids
To choose the best walk-in tub and shower combos, I rated manufacturers on the following criteria:
- Safety features: I look for safety features like anti-slip floors and seats, grab bars, low step-in heights, and quick drainage.
- Comfort: I prioritize tubs with wide seats, air and water jets, chromotherapy, and aromatherapy, plus extra features like heated backrests, bidets, and music.
- Price: While walk-in tub prices will vary significantly by the provider and specific model, not to mention the cost of installation, I looked for companies that offer models in the ballpark of $2,000 to $8,000.
What is a walk-in tub/shower combination?
A walk-in tub/shower combination is a walk-in bathtub that also has a showerhead or an extendable shower wand, allowing the user to bathe while sitting or standing. Walk-in tub and shower combos will also have the safety benefits of walk-in tubs, like nonslip floors, low entry thresholds, quick drainage, and grab bars to help prevent falls.
Cost of a walk-in tub and shower combo
The cost of a walk-in tub/shower combination breaks down into the cost of the equipment itself, along with the installation and additional costs. You can purchase a tub either straight from a manufacturer like Ella’s Bubbles, or from a big-box store like Lowe's or Home Depot. With a manufacturer, however, the cost of installation is typically built-in, unlike with a big-box store, which will not remove your old tub or install a new one.
As far as the hardware itself goes, you can pay anywhere from $2,000 on the low end all the way up to $20,000 or more on the high end, with $5,000 to $10,000 as a reasonable average for mid-range models. Also, keep in mind the cost of the water heating itself, as your current water heater may not be able to provide enough hot water for a large walk-in tub, drainage, and your existing fixtures.
Financial assistance for walk-in tubs
Medicare does not consider a walk-in tub to be a medical necessity, so you cannot get funding from this federal agency. However, you may be able to get some financial support from some Medicare Advantage Part C plans or Medicaid; it's all dependent on what your state considers to be durable medical equipment. If you're a veteran, see if you can qualify for a VA grant.
Other financial assistance options for walk-in tubs include:
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture Single Family Housing Repair Loans & Grants for older adults living in rural areas on reduced incomes: Known as the Section 504 Home Repair program, very low-income seniors 62 and older might qualify for grants or loans for a walk-in tub.
- Tax deductions.
- Financing from the manufacturer, which can have 0 percent APR if the term length is 12 months or less.
