How We Chose the Best Assisted Living Communities
Every person’s needs, preferences and budgets are different, so no assisted living community is perfect for everyone. That said, here’s how we evaluated the best options.
Cost
Assisted living costs continue to be quite high, so we took budgets into account. Each facility that made this list is either below the local average or so impressive in its amenities, services and offerings that it’s worth the extra cost. We used city and state averages from CareScout, which tracks costs of assisted living communities.5
Location
We chose assisted living communities that are close to city centers, natural beauty or other convenient amenities.
Amenities
Each of these assisted living communities offers personal care, housekeeping, a wellness program and modern apartments to ensure that older adults are safe, taken care of and comfortable in their new homes.
Levels of Care
Most of these facilities offer independent living, assisted living and memory care, ensuring that you will not have to move to receive care if your needs change.
Activities
An engaging activity calendar is important for healthy aging. We chose facilities that offer activities to fit every personality, including lifelong learning, fitness classes, arts and crafts, lectures, shopping excursions, volunteer opportunities, movie nights, ice cream socials, and more.
