Xfinity Landline Phones for Seniors: 2024 Review and Pricing
Unlike traditional landlines, the Xfinity Voice home phone plan offered by Comcast is a digital landline, giving it clearer call quality and advanced features such as three-way calls and voicemail-to-text conversion.
Its dependence on an internet connection is both an advantage and disadvantage for the Xfinity landline. It leads to crisper audio and added features, but it means you need a modem to use it, which costs extra each month. If you want to bundle your internet with a modern landline, however, Xfinity offers monthly rates as low as $30.
In this review, we’ll recount our experience with Xfinity's home phone service.

Xfinity Landline Pros and Cons
Pros
- Audio quality: Since Xfinity’s landline is digital and hooked into the company’s internet service, it has higher audio quality than a traditional phone line.
- Call features: Unlike a traditional landline, Xfinity offers many convenient features such as three-way calls, call forwarding and screening, and anonymous call rejection.
- International options: For people with family or colleagues in other countries, Xfinity offers plans for unlimited calling ranges that can be expanded to Canada, Puerto Rico, China, India, Mexico, and South Korea.
- Money-back guarantee: Comcast offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on its phone plans, so you can try it with no strings attached.
Cons
- High prices: Xfinity offers a stand-alone landline, but many of its plans are expensive and bundle TV and internet service with the phone.
- Internet required: Not everyone will appreciate Xfinity’s streamlined approach, which requires a wireless internet connection to use the landline.
FYI: Despite the prevalence of cell phones, landlines can still be useful. To learn more, read our guide: Reasons Why You Should Keep Your Landline.
Xfinity Plans and Pricing

Xfinity Landline Plan for Seniors
Currently, Xfinity does not offer a specific home phone or landline plan for seniors. There are no age qualifications for Xfinity landlines.
To use an Xfinity landline, you’ll need a digital internet connection if you opt for the cheapest landline, but it doesn’t need to be through Comcast. The basic plan will be the best fit for most seniors since it provides a primary phone number and many optional services, including call features such as call trace, toll restriction, speed dial, collect call prevention, call return, and repeat dialing, all of which can be added for no extra charge. As of 2020, Comcast no longer offers directory listing services.
You can opt for more expensive plans if you want to bundle Xfinity and TV with your landline into one monthly bill. Most seniors, however, will likely need only the landline plan to go with their pre-existing internet service or the $14-per-month modem from Xfinity.

How to Purchase Xfinity
Visit the company’s website to purchase an Xfinity landline. Xfinity also has many in-person retailers if you want to speak with a representative.
On the website, click “Home Phone” at the top. It will take you to a page that provides options for Xfinity plans. The plans can be customized, to a certain extent, by clicking “Customize this Plan.”
Once you know the plan you want, you can click “Check Availability,” which will prompt you to put in your address so you can confirm that the plan is available in your area. After that, the purchasing process is straightforward.
Xfinity Landline Pricing
Xfinity landlines are priced starting at $30 per month, and each additional line costs $9.95 per month. The more expensive plans bundle internet and TV, and their prices vary depending on the data and channels you receive. The plans do not have long-term contracts, and Xfinity offers the first 30 days as a trial period with a money-back guarantee.
Even the basic plan has some hidden fees you should be aware of. There’s no charge for adding services such as speed dialing and call tracing, but service activation costs a one-time fee of $29.95. Reactivation costs $6 each time. A director-assistance call costs $2.49, changing your phone number costs $5, and there are late-payment fees of up to $10.
Direct-dialed domestic long-distance calls are included, but an operator-assisted long-distance call costs $0.12 per minute. The modem you’ll need if you don’t have a wireless internet connection costs $14 per month. Comcast offers premium modem options for up to $34.95 extra per month, however, if you want additional calling features.
Xfinity broadcast TV also has a $22.65 monthly fee and regional sports channels have a $11.30-per-month fee. Check Xfinity’s requirements thoroughly to see if the plan you have chosen has the features you need.
Xfinity Landline vs. Verizon Landline
Verizon’s landline is a digital home phone like Xfinity’s, tied into your internet plan. The best way to choose between them is to look at which bundling options would be best for you. If you already pay for Xfinity internet, for example, it would be relatively cheap to add a landline to your plan.
Since hidden fees and overages can add up, you should look at the fine print of both plans to see what you’ll be responsible for. It could determine which plan you ultimately choose.
Xfinity Landline | Verizon Landline | |
---|---|---|
Starting Price (per month) | $30 | $39.99 |
Price Increases | No | No |
Contract Requirement | No | No (2-year contract Available) |
Long-Distance Calls | No | Included |
Bottom Line
Xfinity offers a basic landline plan for $30 per month that can be paired with your wireless internet connection or bundled with Xfinity’s. It comes with long-distance call support and many call features that should satisfy most seniors looking for a primary home phone provider.
Xfinity’s plans — particularly those bundled with internet and TV — have many hidden fees and charges. Check to see what you will actually pay per month before buying, and take advantage of the 30-day trial period to see if the Xfinity landline is the right fit for you.
