Aloe Care Health Essentials

For $29.99 per month plus an initial fee of $149.99, the Essentials system provides Aloe Care Health’s Smart Hub that has voice-activated access to 24/7 emergency response and environmental monitoring. You’ll also receive a lightweight (2 ounces) wearable help button that’s slightly larger than a quarter. The device allows you to call for help by pressing its emergency button, which will trigger your Smart Hub to contact the monitoring center. The help button should last approximately three years.

You’ll also have access to Aloe Care Health’s secure digital-assistant application, which is tailored to the needs of caregivers. If you’re a family caregiver, for example, and you get concerned because you haven’t heard from your mother-in-law all day, you can check the app for information about her daily movements and see if any calls have been made to the monitoring center.

If I were a long-distance caregiver, I would certainly feel more comfortable having access to all the information the Aloe Care Health app provides. The system is most appropriate for older adults who enjoy living independently and spend most of their time at home, but would feel more comfortable with extra safety features with access to emergency care. One of the other standout features of this system is that it has built-in motion, temperature, and air quality sensors. Along with motion temperature and air quality sensors, this system has a motion-activated night light to help prevent falls.

Aloe Care Health Essentials Plus

Best for more active adults who split their time between being home and on the go, Essentials Plus is a step up from the Essentials package. It’s priced at $39.99 per month and requires a $249.99 one-time hardware fee. The system consists of three pieces of equipment:

• 1 4G LTE Smart Hub
• 1 Care Button (for home monitoring)
• 1 Mobile Companion (for on-the-go monitoring)

The Essentials Plus system works identically to the Essentials system, except it also has the LTE Mobile Companion, which features built-in fall detection. The secure caregiver app includes all the information Essentials subscribers receive, but caregivers using the app with Essentials Plus can access real-time location updates for their loved one, which is especially helpful if you’re looking after someone whose memory has declined or an older loved one who is in good health but can be hard to track down.

Aloe Care Total Care

Aloe Care Health’s most expensive system, Total Care, costs $49.99 monthly with a $349.99 one-time hardware fee. Unlike the other Aloe Care Health systems, Total Care requires Wi-Fi. Equipment for the Total Care system is the same as Essentials Plus, but with three additional items:

• Two motion sensors to provide extra coverage for your home, programmed to notify your caregivers about any unusual activity or a lack of activity.
• A smart fall-detection sensor with voice recognition that does not require any wearables or invasive cameras. The sensor is meant for rooms no larger than 12 by 16 feet, such as a bathroom.

This system is ideal for individuals who split their time between home and social activities, or people who would feel safer with extra protections at home and on the go. If you have trouble keeping your balance, this might be the system for you.

Aloe Care Health Mobile Companion

Part of the Essentials Plus and Total Care packages, Aloe Care Health’s Mobile Companion can also stand alone as a wearable medical alert. On its own, Mobile Companion costs $24.99 per month after an initial hardware fee of $99.99.

To get help using the Mobile Companion, press the emergency button in the middle of your pendant and wait 20 to 30 seconds to be connected with a monitoring agent. The water-resistant pendant works on 4G LTE nationwide network (where available), and it can relay your location to emergency services or concerned members of your Care Circle who request the information from Aloe Care Health’s mobile app. This system even includes automatic fall detection at no extra cost and access to a 24/7 call center.

Mobile Companion may be a good personal emergency solution for individuals who want to calm the fears of a spouse or partner while they’re out and about on their own. It may also be a smart choice for active individuals who are diligent about charging their devices, since you’ll need to charge the device for six hours every five days. Overall, this system provides comprehensive protection for older adults that spend most of their time at home or on the go.

Purchasing From Aloe Care Health

You can purchase one of Aloe Care Health’s four medical alert systems over the phone or online via the company’s website. Package prices start at $29.99 monthly and increase by $10 per month for the next package tier. For a few dollars a month less, you can purchase Aloe Care Health’s on-the-go device, Mobile Companion, by itself.

Since Aloe Care Health requires you to purchase its equipment rather than rent, you must pay one-time hardware fees that range from $99.99 to $349.99, depending on the system. Legally Aloe Care Health’s monthly charges may increase at any time, so if you prefer a monthly payment you can count on, you may want to consider consider LifeFone, which locks in your price for life.

Aloe Care Health Returns and Cancellations

Like many other medical alert brands, Aloe Care Health invites you to get started risk-free with a 30-day money-back guarantee. After that period, canceling your Aloe Care Health plan requires a bit more advanced notice. You won’t get stuck in a long-term contract with Aloe Care Health, but cancellation requires written notification 30 days in advance.

Aloe Care Health Warranties

Aloe Care Health is up front about not having any expressed or implied warranties. Not having a warranty was initially a concern for me, but I later learned that Aloe Care Health includes an equipment-service plan similar to the warranties other providers offer. The company simply insists its plan is a service contract rather than a warranty, which sounds like more of a semantics issue than a total lack of coverage.

Aloe Care Health Pricing

Aloe Care Health’s monthly subscription prices are midrange, running from $24.99 to $49.99. The initial equipment fee the company requires up front for each system — ranging from $99.99 to $349.99 — is significant, considering most other medical alert companies include hardware rental fees in their monthly subscription costs. The good news is Aloe Care Health is very transparent about its pricing, and it’s free of hidden or unexpected charges.

Aloe Care Health Add-Ons

Add-ons, such as extra sensors, cannot be purchased a la carte. If you want the total package, you’ll have to purchase Total Care, Aloe Care Health’s most expensive system, which is priced at $49.99 per month with a $349.99 up-front equipment charge.

Most companies allow you to purchase additional accessories a la carte, but you could potentially increase your expected cost by $500 in the first year with Aloe Care Health — just to add a couple sensors. Aloe Care Health claims to be in the process of adding individual device options to its online selection. Some of the individual devices customers want to purchase a la carte, though, are high-tech and newer to the industry, not just standard accessories.

Aloe Care Health’s leadership is passionate about remote and collaborative caregiving, so it’s no surprise that 70 percent of the company’s team members serve as caregivers for aging adults.
